UV lights have a multitude of uses. For gem and mineral collectors they will show up gems that fluoresce. This helps to identify gems such as Alexandrite and Ruby form fakes or synthetics. The third picture shows a ruby in zoesite flourescing under the light from the flashlight.

UV lights can also be used for ink and glue curing, distinguishing counterfeit bank notes, detecting gas leaks, mark and blood inspection and checking leaks in air conditioner systems.
